Fishing
Visitors can enjoy fishing in two main areas: Nails Creek Unit and Birch Creek Unit. The park offers a variety of fish species including largemouth bass, crappie, catfish and white bass. Fishing gear is available for loan within the park premises at no cost. A valid Texas fishing license is required to fish here unless exempted by law.

Picnicking
1. Lake Somerville State Park offers numerous picnic spots with grills and tables.
2. Visitors can enjoy a lakeside picnic for stunning views.
3. Shaded areas are available for comfortable picnicking during summer months.
4. Some sites also have fire rings, perfect for evening cookouts or marshmallow roasting sessions.
5. Picnic pavilions can be reserved in advance, ideal for large groups or family gatherings.

Birding
The park offers birding opportunities with species like the Red-tailed Hawk, Eastern Bluebird and Northern Cardinal. Other birds sighted include Scissor-tail Flycatchers, American Kestrels and various waterfowl. The trailway is a hotspot for migratory songbirds in spring and fall seasons. Birdwatchers can also spot Bald Eagles during winter months.
