BOB WHITE STATE PARK
Bob White State Park, located in Wayne County, Iowa, is a serene 2,000-acre park named after the famous quail once abundant in southern Iowa. The main feature of this tranquil area is Lake Ellis, a picturesque 53-acre lake ideal for fishing and boating enthusiasts seeking largemouth bass and bluegill.
Opened to the public on August 30th, 1935 as part of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal program during the Great Depression era; it was developed by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) workers who built roads, trails and picnic areas that visitors still enjoy today. Hikers can explore several miles of scenic woodland trails while birdwatchers often spot various species including its namesake bobwhite quails amidst diverse habitats ranging from prairie remnants to dense forests.
The park also offers camping facilities with electric hookups along with non-electric sites for those preferring a more rustic experience under Iowan skies. Picnicking spots are scattered throughout Bob White State Park providing families an idyllic setting for outdoor gatherings surrounded by nature's beauty.
