JEWELL COUNTY STATE PARK
JEWELL COUNTY STATE PARK

Surrounded by grassland hills, JewellCountyStateLake was constructed primarily as a fishing area. This heavily used lake is between Glen Elder and Lovewell Reservoirs and provides a sheltered retreat not found on the bigger waters. The area and surrounding grassland vegetation is native prairie grasses, woodland trees and shrubs. Native grasses found are little bluestem, Indian grass, switch grass, sideoats, gram a, western wheat grass and buffalo grass. The trees and shrubs around the lake and in the drainages above the lake and below the dam are primarily cottonwood, hackberry, green ash, willow, black walnut, eastern red cedar, mulberry, osage orange, black locust, dogwood, and American plum.

The fishery consists of largemouth bass, channel catfish, bluegill, green sunfish, walleye, bullhead, and carp. Five fishing piers are available around the lake to increase fishing access. Three fish feeders are used to improve growth and condition of the fish.

Public hunting is allowed, but due to the small land area, opportunities are limited. Pheasant, quail, turkey, dove, fox squirrel, rabbit, mule and whitetail deer, waterfowl, furbearers and many song birds and non-game wildlife inhabit or pass through and use the area. Food plots encourage wildlife to use the area and supplement the food provided by the native plants and surrounding agricultural lands.

Camping is available in designated sites. Seven picnic shelters with tables and grills as well as three pit toilets are conveniently located around the lake. Camping is not permitted at the reservable Group Shelter, except by special permit. Swimming is not permitted. Tying to and climbing on fish feeders will not be tolerated.

Motorized boats are allowed at no wake speeds, for fishing and hunting only. Small one and two person bass boats with a trolling motor are very effective at fishing the cover areas on the lake. A boat ramp with parking lot is located on the west side.

NO TRASH RECEPTACLES ARE PROVIDED. PLEASE, TAKE YOUR TRASH WITH YOU.
