It was bigger & better then I expected but if you plan on a picnic better bring your on stuff no were for miles to buy anything.
stayed at park campgrounds very nice clean spots with pads, electric, showers toilets and video surv. rangers very helpful and friendly. town charming. Ride ferry over to amish country- bout 20 or 30 min to get supplys, gas etc so be prepared - nice rock paths to walk the river nice rest spots with a view if you are at the end of shawnee its a must to see Yesterday. 14 June 2014, my Grand daughter and I visited this park. We stopped at the playground near the restrooms. Brittiney had her DS in her hand and layed it down on the ground by the swing she was using. When we left she forgot it until we stopped to look at the cave. We returned to the playground and hunted but could not find her DS. We left her name and number at the reasturant close by on the chance that whoever pcked it up decides to return it to her.
On April 7,2013 while tent camping in the park at about 4:30am or so, I heard what sounded like a woman screaming at the top of her lungs! As this sound got closer, I could tell it was not a human. This sound was in the park and very close to my tent, about 100yds.away or so. I resaerched the sound I heard and I am sure that it was a Moutain Lion scream! The IDNR should revisit the opinion regarding Mountain Lions in the Shawnee! Still, I enjoyed the cave, hiking and camping in the park in general. On the deck, watching the barges, day and night - about as peaceful as it gets. I highly recommend it as an excellent place to unwind. I ABSOULTLY LOVE CAVE IN ROCK STATE PARK. IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND QUITE. IT IS A PLEASURE TO STROLL AROUND THE LITTLE TOWN AND EAT AT THE NEIGHBORHOOD RESTAURANT. I TRY TO COME BACK EVERY YEAR. wonderful place!!! go there every chance!
